[Project 05] in progress

For project 05, I'm thinking about show the overall seasonal change of the site from north to south:

The first image is the agricultural field (01)by showing the view  in winter and transit to summer.I took these pictures in the car, so you can see some blur of the grass because of the speed, so when I edit these pictures in Photoshop, I want to create the effect that you will see the view change from winter to summer of this place by sitting in a train.

For the second image,  I used the pictures of the same place(the sugar mill) in different site visits, and combine them to create the view of  different distance you are away from the sugar mill when you walking on the path on the site.

For the third image,  I want to show the another huge steel structure which on the south part of the site. The structure is surrounded by weed and other abandoned plants makes the place itself a huge comparison. And the season change makes the comparison even stronger.

[Project04] developed

I traced the walking paths and marked the most possible paths with different color that people would like to choose to go in the daytime. I also use the temperature monitor to get the temperature line for each spacial sections and overlay them together.

From this week's site visit, I have studied about  the spatial temporal dynamics in the industrial complex space and surrounding ecosystem. Below are the sections about the sections of spatial temporal dynamics. I find that as a spacial and big place, there're not much shadow and shelter for people , which means the sunlight has a big influence on people's choices of path and walking experience when pass through the site. I want take this point as my research of  this project .

People's walking trace of the site, the darker lines are, the more frequent people pass by.

How light and shadow work on this place, I will work more on how the light and shadow effect people's experience when walking through the site.

[Project 03] Interval

For this project, I study on the transportation of the site about people transport sugar cane from their fields to Cinclare over time. The timeline shows from 1880-1920, which is the time period that Cinclare developed itself. The radios of the timeline also show the area of  the nearby agricultural fields, you can see when the sugar mill developed better, more farmers are willing to send their sugar cane to Cinclare. The black dots are the existing agricultural fields that still in use. Except the timeline,  there's also a path line of the truck when it carried the sugar cane from fields to sugar mill across the Mississippi River. On the way, you can see the Bridge, boat and river when you drive  and finally get to see the high bright chimney stack and park in the huge steel structure, and dump the sugar cane on the conveyer to transport into the mill.

By  drawing multiple sections of the site, it compares the landform of east and west baton rouge that are divided by Mississippi River. And you can also see the differences of the thickness of soil and river, the high point and low point of the area,  the flat field ground and skyline.

I overlap all the sections together at the bottom of the drawing, so you can see the difference of west and east baton rouge more straightforward. It shows the location of Cinclare sugar mill, the differences of height elevation in order to help me understand the context,elevation differences and scale of the site.

[Project 03] Interval

From my last site visit, the empty feeling of the site makes me wondering how was the site looks like before, So I try to dig more about the historical human activity on this site. As I mentioned in the last posting, the large steel structure used for transport sugar cane from fields to inside of the mill. Trucks of sugar cane came to the sugar mill one after another and this large steel structure was like a semi-open space for trucks to have a short stay. 

This drawing is about the transportation to the site over time. The small circle is the area of the sugar cane fields that sent their sugar cane to the Cinclare sugar mill after 1880  ; While the big circle is the area of the fields that sent their sugar canes to Cinclare sugar mill after 1920 . The dark dots are some still existing sugar cane fields near the site.

1. I use folded paper as brush dip ink to create the texture of the context of the site along Mississippi River.

2.  At the centre of the drawing is my last site observation drawing, it's like the destination of all that trucks from different sugar cane fields of Cinclare sugar mill.
